Session 3 - Living in the Age of the Modern “Self”

Feb 4, 2024    Rick Carmickle

How can Christians fulfill their mission in the modern world that excludes a place for God in the transcendent realm? Believers today live in a cross-pressurized world where exclusive humanism and autonomous reason impact how Christians understand our faith. Believers who unknowingly adopt elements of philosophical modernism will likewise suffer the psychological experience of emptiness, isolation, and superficiality in their lives. Technology has created a distracted generation with thin and contradictory beliefs, and a shallow identity that affects all of us. In this class, we will see that human beings crave meaning, satisfaction, identity, justice, hope, and community—and that the Christian faith provides abundantly for those desires. We will explore these issues to help us more effectively understand and engage with our culture.
